Stumbling Stone

Stumbling Stone

A "Stumbling Stone" (Stolperstein) is a small brass plaque set into the pavement in front of buildings across various European cities. These plaques are dedicated to the memory of individuals who were persecuted, deported, or murdered by the Nazis during World War II, particularly victims of the Holocaust. Each stone is engraved with the name, date of birth, and fate of the person commemorated — whether they were killed, sent to concentration camps, or forced into exile. The idea behind these stones is to "stumble" upon the memory of these individuals while walking through the streets, creating a connection between past and present. The project was started by German artist Gunter Demnig in 1992 and has since expanded to numerous countries. The aim is to preserve the memory of people who suffered and disappeared during the Holocaust, ensuring they are never forgotten.
This particular stone was created by our Master craftsman and artist Antonio Saluzzi in the city of Potenza using our M71 brass. A source of pride we are honoured to share. Thank you again, Maestro, for choosing us.
